You’ll head out of base camp for your first day on the spectacular Cornish peninsula. Riding in a clockwise direction, you'll follow the coast through Penzance and harbour towns like the beautiful Mousehole. Dropping down through coves and onto beaches, there will be ample time to stop for swims and relax before you brave the ascent back up and onto the cliff tops of west Cornwall.
Roll out of camp on quiet country roads which lead back to the south coast, heading in a south-easterly direction. The route then drops down into the picturesque post of Porthleven which wraps around an natural harbour and ramps up sharply to the coastal path providing spectacular view down onto sandy beaches. Wild sandy beaches and sand bar traverses await you on day two, but you'll be well rewarded with sublime scenery and riding.
The route heads north across the spine of West Kernow in the direction of the north coast and Portreath. Remnants and ruins bear testament to the area’s mining legacy as you roll over the hills on rural lanes, quiet byways and mining trails. Finish the day at the fabled St Michaels Mount, unmissable and unforgettable – the monastery dates back to c. 1000 is perched on top of a granite outcrop – accessible via the causeway at low tide. It is a fitting highlight which marks the end of the West Kernow Way.
