We're celebrating Mason Cycles' 10th anniversary with a super special two day gravel extravaganza. Based on the spectacular Applesham Farm within sprinting distance of one of the UK's most spectacular and iconic must-ride locations - the South Downs National Trail. Join in the weekend festival vibes with Wild Cycles, the amazing folk at Mason Cycles and the cool Neighbourhood Gravel gang for this a once-in-a-lifetime  experience.

2 days of riding on some of the country's most beautiful and spectacular gravel-routes. Camp at the Mason Barn on the picturesque Applesham Farm in a simply stunning location - with views across the Downs and down to the glistening English channel. Sublime routes incorporate the best and most challenging aspects of the South Downs National Park with its spectacular scenery - making for a wild and unforgettable weekend experience.​

You'll be treated to a heart-warming welcome at basecamp and a fully wholesome and fully delicious Saturday dinner & Sunday breakfast (which people are still raving about). Complete with super chilled camp vibes, fireside chats and music

If you're after a super-special weekend experience - with stunning scenery, sweeping views, wide open spaces and a great sense of freedom on a selection of specially planned routes - designed to delight - mixing it up with a fabulous bunch of people - rave-worthy delicious wholesome cooked food, craft brews - this is the one!

 

Taking the weekend vibes to another level we are celebrating Masons' 10th anniversary - so come along and help us to party.....special events, talks and competitions will be announced in the coming months leading up to May '24.

 

For the rides - we've packed in some of the best of the South Downs National Park to ensure your maximum enjoyment. Expect sublime gravel and chalky trails, some insanely steep climbs and an extraordinary amount of elevation m's. (!don't worry - there will be a range of routes to choose from on the Saturday!). Sunday is a super chilled fun social group ride.

 

Basecamp is at Mason Cycles, Lancing where you'll register, pitch your tent before heading out onto the trails for the day. After an unforgettable day of riding return to basecamp.

Spend the weekend in a beautiful setting with a bunch of super-friendly people, enjoying the fireside chats, delicious wholesome food, great beer and all-round good vibrations.

The Mason Wild South Downs Way Adventure is self-guided.

  • Ride briefings and GPX routes for each day are provided in advance.

  • Camping on Saturday night includes your tent pitch with stunning views, loos, running water and power for re-charging devices.

  • Evening fireside vibes where you can chill and recount that day's highlights.

  • Music and celebrations!

  • Wholesome Saturday dinner - we're sourcing and dishing up a rave-worthy evening meal with vegetarian and vegan options (all dietary preferences catered for). 

  • Sunday morning is a delicious and equally wholesome cooked breakfast, granola, fruit, fresh coffee and tea.

Mason wild South Downs itinerary

1 night/2 days

Cycling and outdoor activity is physically demanding.

A good level of fitness is required for the rides. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are sufficiently fit and healthy to complete rides and to ensure you have the necessary skill and capability to do so.

Saturday

  • Arrive at Masons Cycles HQ 09:00 - 10:00, sign-on, pick your pitch. 

  • Get ready to roll-out 10:00 - 10:30

  • There will be a choice of routes from and returning to the barn varying in distance and difficulty. The landscape in this part of the world is very lumpy and we are planning at least one option which will surely be testy in terms of elevation gain. Details to follow.

  • Expect glorious gravel, rolling countryside, excellent views. Elevation gains (climbs!) are rewarded in the form of the spectacular views.

  • Optional lunch stop at the fabulous  Beak Brewery en-route*.

  • Arrive at basecamp at Mason Cycles, enjoy a delicious, wholesome home-cooked evening meal around the camp fire - sharing stories of the day's adventures.

  • Sit back, relax and soak up the camp vibes, music and all-round great company before tucking in for the night.​

  • If you fancy arriving on Friday pm/eve check out the nearby YHA at Truleigh Hill or camp at Kings Barn Please book either of these direct (not included in event fee).


Day 2 Sunday

  • Fully cooked and wholesome breakfast.

  • Join the gang for a fully chilled - no less beautiful and specially planned route of c. 50km riding high above Brighton offering breath-taking scenes across the Downs and the ocean beyond. Ditchling Beacon is the highpoint and the highlight of this section with 360 views.

  • Return to basecamp, pack-up and head home after an unforgettable weekend of riding in beautiful places, great food and fabulous company!

Our aim is to keep the event's impact to an absolute minimum, reduce motorised traffic and would encourage as many people as possible to use public transport and/or ride in.

Basecamp at The Mason Barn is within rideable distance from Brighton, Shoreham, Worthing and Lancing stations. As there is limited parking space - we will  need you to reserve a spot in advance. These will be allocated on a first come - first served basis. There is no charge for this - please follow the link below.

  • Unfortunately we cannot accommodate camper vans due to limited parking space on the farm

  • Parking spaces are very limited, so please ensure you book.

  • The Mason Barn is well serviced with train stations and a rideable distance from Brighton, Shoreham and Worthing. Please plan your visit accordingly if not able to secure parking. We are also encouraging as many people as possible to use public transport where possible.

  • Unfortunately we cannot allow pets and dogs on to the farm as it is a working farm and there is livestock everywhere!
